Job Description
The Regional Driver is responsible to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) while transporting freight; interstate and intrastate commerce between terminals and/or relay stations OR from home terminal (origin) to distant points (destination) and return. The Regional Driver adheres to Federal, State and Local laws and regulations, as well as Company policy; and the Mission, Vision and Value Statements of the organization.
Job Details:
Operate vehicle in compliance with company rules and all applicable state and federal regulations, and in accordance with accepted principles of safe driving.
Thoroughly check required parts and accessories of the CMV to determine safe operating condition performing a pre-trip and post trip inspection; keep record to ensure proper inspections were completed.
Keep truck neat, clean and organized inside and out. Check with Management for securing extras such as ladders, bicycles, refrigerators, microwaves and televisions.
Check shipping papers to determine nature of load and any special handling instructions/permits or hazards.
Properly block and secure load to prevent damage or load shifting.
Properly place freight on trailer to ensure legal axle weights.
Before leaving origin it is crucial to review and understand permits for accuracy, as these loads are required to stay on route.
Pick up and deliver freight per Driver Manager direction/instruction. Provide a high level of respect and cooperation with our Customers; contact your DM immediately for any customer related issues/concerns.
Check securement and tarping on pre-loaded freight.
If applicable; for tank deliveries return saddles and/or blocking to shipper or terminals.
Measure overall dimensions of tractor trailer and freight to ensure the load is legal or matches permit dimensions.
Take pictures of all secured loads and submit to Driver Manager and/or Risk Manager.
Collect freight charges as instructed on COD shipments per the DM instruction.
Operate a forklift, certified through in-house training program.
Report all accidents, incidents and nears misses involving bodily injury, equipment and/or freight per policy to the Driver Manager and Safety.
Report timely/promptly marked bills of lading or freight damage to the Driver Manager and Safety.
Maintain records as required and submit to the Accounting Department for processing and /or reimbursement.
Understand and be compliant on Hours of Service, logs records of fuels purchases, and mileage records. Submit paperwork by the end of each work week to the Accounting Department.
Report promptly any delays that will affect pick up or delivery appointments to the DM via phone, or Qualcomm.
Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
Adhere to and follow Company policies per the handbook.
Responsible for keeping adequate personal hygiene; following the Dress and Appearance Policy. The Driver will be in close proximity to other workers and possibly for extended periods of time; therefore personal hygiene is a must.
Typically the Regional Driver will be out 5 nights per week.
Additional duties as assigned by the Driver Manager.
Qualifications:
Class A CDL and a current medical card as required under Subpart E -391.41.
Must pass a DOT physical examination, and agility test and NIDA Drug Screen in order to demonstrate physical and mental abilities for the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV).
Must speak, read and write the English language proficiently, demonstrated when a Class A CDL is obtained by passing the required written examinations administered at the nearest Department of Motor Vehicles.
License must be valid in the state the Drivers resides with a permanent address; license must be without suspension or revocation.
Must be able to obtain a passport and TWIC card or hold current documents.
Have the ability to run the lower 48 states and Canada.
Must be at least 23 years of age.
Experience driving a forklift; loading and unloading following all safety guidelines.
A minimum of two (2) years verifiable driving experience in the operation of tractor/trailer equipment or similar equipment; preferably flatbed within the past five (5) years.
Meet the requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSA) and have the ability to go through the qualification process; passing all requirements including a road test.
Note:Students or applicants with less than 2 years of experience or have not driven within the past 5 years, will be considered.
Driver must be able to sit for extended periods of time in the cab of a tractor.
Driver must be able to walk, bend, reach, push, pull, stoop, and squat, climb as well as grasp, lift and secure loads; handle tarps, which may weigh in excess of 75 pounds. Functions are performed outdoor exposed to weather conditions.
