Summary The Lead Traffic Engineer serves as a technical expert within our Transportation group. They leverage deep knowledge of their discipline to help create company standards, mentor younger staff, and influence projects organization-wide. Responsibilities include delivering technically sound products that meet client expectations, on time and within budget. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Possess specialized expertise used across office or business lines to complete work. Independently complete engineering designs using professional judgment. Assist or act as Project Manager, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and answering questions. Ensure accuracy of tasks completed by engineering staff through QA/QC. Contribute to the creation of firm-wide standards in their area of expertise. Make design decisions aligned with client needs, considering project impacts. Proactively identify and resolve technical, schedule, or financial issues. Assist in bidding or contractor selection when authorized. Monitor construction and supervise field personnel. Respond to contractor questions, prepare project addenda, and recommend change orders. Participate in engineering proposals, including estimating time and costs. Sign and seal engineering documents as an authorized representative. Communicate technical matters directly with clients. Provide technical leadership on projects and mentorship to less experienced staff. Engage in professional associations, present papers, and participate in outreach activities. Support business development efforts with technical expertise. This is a non-supervisory role, providing technical and project leadership to professional and technical staff, acting as a mentor. Education and Experience Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, registered professionally. 8+ years relevant experience in traffic-related projects. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license; PTOE certification preferred. Deep expertise in traffic analysis software such as HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, VISTRO, Corsim, Microstation/Geopak, SignCAD, Rodel. Strong skills in MS Office and discipline-specific software. Excellent technical communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Desire to develop project management skills. Active involvement in professional organizations (e.g., ITE, ITS America, ASCE, APWA) is preferred. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel. Compensation Range $101,200.00 - $161,600.00. Final salary depends on education, experience, skills, and location. Compensation may include base salary and performance-based bonuses.
