Workplace Location: Los Angeles – Academy Museum, 8949 Wilshire, and Pickford
Summary/Objective: The On-Call Theater Supervisor, Academy Theaters, supports the delivery of a premier theater experience across all Academy Theaters. In this role, you will assist in ensuring seamless operations for every show and a best-in-class visitor experience by leading a team of Theater Staff in the day-to-day operations of the Academy Theaters for internal and external programs.
Essential Functions of the Job: - Foster a welcoming, professional, and service-oriented environment for members, clients, vendors, staff, and guests.
- Ensure the theater facilities are in optimal condition for an exceptional movie experience, including the support spaces, tech spaces, and greenrooms.
- Oversee tech rehearsals.
- Manage daily operations, including floor coverage, breaks, and leading events.
- Manage theater experience challenges, concerns, comments, and complaints, including any seating, ticketing, or admissions issues.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of Academy Campus, inhouse projection staff, AV staff, guest event managers, Academy event staff, and engineers on event days.
- Manage and update screening information into databases and attend meetings as needed.
- Inform theater staff of information relating to events, policies, procedures, or visitor issues .
- Lead daily team briefings to ensure a successful run-of-show for all screenings and events.
- Manage on-stage elements, including panels, talent movement, microphones, ASL interpreters, camera teams, and stage furniture.
- Lead productions by calling shows for all internal and external programs.
- Ensure team compliance with legal policies and procedures.
- Monitor and maintain theater accessibility supplies and equipment.
- Uphold the Academy standard for program excellence.
- Act as a liaison between external clients and internal projectionists/AV team members.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: - Event Day Supervision of Theater Staff, Academy Theaters.
Required Competencies: - A high school diploma or equivalent certification of completion.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience operating a high-profile cinema or event venue.
- Must enjoy working with the public and demonstrate friendliness, professionalism, enthusiasm, and a customer-centric approach.
- Knowledge of admissions, Mobile POS, and online ticketing systems.
- A strong sense of showmanship.
- A commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Preferred Qualifications: - Museum, or other arts nonprofit experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of movie theater technology, lighting design, sound design, sound reproduction techniques, film, picture aspect ratios, and theater operations preferred.
Physical Demands: - Ability to climb stairs, bend, squat, traverse stairways, and move moderately weighted items.
Work Environment: - Primarily indoors at the Academy Theater venues, with occasional need to work outdoors managing lines.
- Occasional need to work in near darkness.
- Variable noise levels depending on programming, including occasional live music.
Travel: - The percentage of travel time expected for the position is 10%.
Required Vaccination: Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required, including any booster vaccinations as applicable.
Exception: Medical and religious accommodations approved by the Office of People & Culture. Compensation: The expected base hourly wage for this role is $32.00 per hour . The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
