It builds the knowledge and hands-on skills needed for entry-level emergency care and prepares students for EMT certification and early field experience.The Paramedicine Academy is an 11-month, three-part program beginning each year on July 1. Designed for students pursuing EMS and Fire Technology pathways, it provides comprehensive education and training in advanced life-support patient care.Upon successful completion, graduates are eligible to take the cognitive and psychomotor examinations of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), which the State of California recognizes for licensure as an entry-level Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic. Essential Functions and Qualifications EMS program graduates will: * Demonstrate the knowledge, clinical skills, professional behaviors, and sound decision-making required for entry-level employment in Emergency Medical Services or the Fire Service occupational fields. * Apply a working knowledge of relevant federal and California laws, regulations, protocols, and codes to ensure safety, effectiveness, and compliance in all-hazards emergency responses and patient-care scenarios.EMS Part-Time Faculty - Duties & Responsibilities: * Prepare and deliver high-quality classroom and/or laboratory instruction aligned with course outlines and program competencies. * Develop, administer, and evaluate written examinations and psychomotor skills assessments; provide timely, constructive feedback. * Maintain accurate records (attendance, reports, rosters) and submit grades and required documentation by established deadlines. * Teach in various modalities and schedules as assigned, including online, day, evening, and/or weekend courses. * Participate in student performance assessment processes, including administrative reviews and student evaluations, and use results to enhance instruction. Minimum Qualifications * Current California Licensed or certified EMT, Paramedic, Registered Nurse, Physician assistant, NP, Physician * Any baccalaureate degree and 2 years' experience or any associate degree and 6 years of professional experience in allied health field. Preferred Requirements: * National Association of EMS Education Course Level I (or will need to obtain within 6 months of hire) * Current Instructor status in ACLS, PALS, AMLS and PHTLS Special Qualification: * Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, and to staff and students with disabilities.Potential Working Environment(s): * Indoor classroom, outdoor environments, office spaces and in the hospital clinical and EMS field arenas.Physical Abilities (with or without reasonable accommodation) may include: * Hearing and speaking to exchange information in classroom, lab, and simulation settings. * Visual acuity sufficient to read printed/electronic materials, observe demonstrations, and evaluate student performance. * Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to operate instructional equipment, perform simulated EMS skills, and use a computer/keyboard. * Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods during instruction and meetings. * Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, or crouch, and to reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally to access equipment and materials. * Ability to lift, move, and carry instructional items and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds safely.
