Job Description

Principal Technical Product Manager

Amazon Industrial Robotics is seeking exceptional talent to help develop the next generation of advanced robotics systems that will transform automation at Amazon's scale. We're building revolutionary robotic systems that combine cutting-edge AI, sophisticated control systems, and advanced mechanical design to create adaptable automation solutions capable of working safely alongside humans in dynamic environments. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of robotics and automation at an unprecedented scale, working with world-class teams pushing the boundaries of what's possible in robotic manipulation, locomotion, and human-robot interaction.

We're seeking a Principal Technical Product Manager with deep robotics engineering expertise to architect and drive transformative automation solutions. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience in robotic systems development, including motion planning, control systems, computer vision, and machine learning. You should be able to dive deep into technical discussions about SLAM algorithms, inverse kinematics, real-time control architectures, and sensor fusion while maintaining a strategic product vision. You'll need to understand the intricacies of ROS, real-time operating systems, and embedded systems development to effectively guide engineering decisions.

In this role, you'll translate complex technical requirements into executable roadmaps, working closely with robotics engineers and scientists to solve challenges in perception, manipulation, and HRI systems. You must be able to evaluate technical tradeoffs in areas like mechanical design, control systems architecture, and AI/ML implementation while considering customer value, business impact, and scalability. You'll lead technical discovery, architecture reviews, and detailed feasibility analyses while driving product strategy that pushes the boundaries of what's possible in robotic automation at scale. Deep experience with industrial robotic systems, real-time control architectures, AI/ML systems for robot learning and adaptation, and large-scale distributed systems is essential.

Key job responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Voice of the Customer for the product line throughout its life cycle from initial concept creation to launch, and subsequent support of the product.
  • Identify new product opportunities by evaluating the business needs and understanding customer pain points and value drivers.
  • Write business and product requirements documents and ensure clear communication and coordination of requirements to the business, design, and development teams.
  • Participate as a member of the core team during development, including research, requirements definition, metrics analysis, implementation, testing, and launch efforts.
  • Work cross-functionally to manage bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make trade-offs, balance the business needs versus technical constraints, and maximize business benefit while building great customer experiences.
  • Measure and analyze existing products for opportunities to innovate and improve, providing additional benefits to customers.
  • Present confidently in a written format to Amazon senior management as well as other large audiences.
  • Demonstrate deep understanding of the scientific research landscape, including research methodologies, common challenges in scientific workflows, and emerging trends in the scientific community to inform product decisions and effectively address researcher needs.
