Join to apply for the Research Assistant role at Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago Join to apply for the Research Assistant role at Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago Overview As a Research Assistant at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago you will utilize analytical skills in the areas of Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics and Computer Science to support academic research and policy work by staff economists. Topics of interest include micro and macroeconomics, finance, regional economic markets, insurance markets, and economic inequality and inclusion. Research and policy projects help to inform and direct the Bank’s efforts to achieve its mission. Specific tasks include quantitative research analyses using economic and financial data; developing code for model estimation; collecting and managing data; and preparation of briefings. This position is structured as a two-year program with a two-year commitment. You will work with economists on a designated team to acquire skills in working with data to answer research and policy questions. Such skills are valuable for graduate studies in economics and related fields as well as careers in industry, policy, and the non-profit sector. The level of work is entry-level under direct supervision, and there are no direct reports. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package. Your Responsibilities Conduct statistical and economic analyses of macroeconomic, microeconomic, financial, and regional data; provide support for economists in research and policy work. Assist economists in basic and applied research by collecting data, performing moderately complex statistical analyses, writing code for model estimation, and organizing presentation of results. Prepare charts, tables, and descriptive text for department management or staff economists for briefings to the President and Board of Directors. Collaborate with economists at all stages of the research process, from literature reviews to data analyses to regressions and presentations of results; on some occasions contribute to jointly authored articles. Initiate and plan research projects under guidance from a manager and department researchers. Perform other duties as requested. Your Education And Experience Bachelor’s degree (minimum) with a strong quantitative background (econometrics, statistics, advanced calculus, or computer programming). Aptitude for quantitative and analytical skills; experience with data and programming languages. Demonstrated interest in economics. Your Knowledge And Skills Knowledge of economic theory and quantitative analysis techniques under supervision. Ability to use PC software and statistical programs (e.g., R, Python, STATA, MATLAB, ArcGIS) to organize data and perform advanced analyses. Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and planning skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
