Seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant – REM (Real Earnings Management) to join an Accounting team in nonprofit for a HYBRID position. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and has a strong background in managing complex financial data. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for performing a wide range of non-routine accounting tasks, including general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, financial statement preparation, journal entry posting, and variance analysis for a portfolio of affordable housing properties. To be successful in this role, candidates must have at least five years of accounting and bookkeeping experience, with a strong preference for those who have worked in a nonprofit or affordable housing environment. A solid understanding of general accounting principles, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and balance sheet reconciliation, is essential. Candidates must also be proficient in Microsoft Office and have experience with Yardi or other accounting software. A minimum of an associate degree in accounting or equivalent academic training is strongly preferred. This role requires someone with exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and analytical skills, who can identify and resolve financial discrepancies and offer proactive solutions to prevent recurrence. The Senior Accountant must be comfortable working under deadlines, juggling multiple priorities, and preparing for audits by assembling necessary schedules and documentation. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary, as this role involves coordination with auditors, internal departments, and property staff. Experience supporting budgeting and forecasting processes is also critical, as the Senior Accountant will play an active role in annual budget preparation and financial review meetings.
