American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Medical-Surgical position on an Adult Medical Specialty Unit at a Level 1 Trauma Center, requiring an active IL RN license and BLS certification.

\n \n Responsibilities\n
  • Work in a 56-bed Adult Medical Specialty Unit within an acute care setting
  • Patient population includes acute care general medical cases such as cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver and kidney failure, and behavioral health or addictions
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 from 07:00-23:00 and 1:5-6 from 23:00-07:30
  • Night shifts are 12 hours, 19:00-07:30, with a requirement for every other weekend and holiday rotation
  • Floating may be required to other acute care general medicine areas including nephrology, neurology, orthopedics, and oncology
  • EPIC charting system is used
  • Common procedures include management of central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes
  • Remote telemetry monitoring with Phillips monitors; RNs can view strips on pack or computer
  • BiPAP and CPAP are used for sleep apnea and respiratory support
  • No call or standby required
  • Free charge RN on each floor; patient care techs assist with ADLs, vital signs, and monitoring with ratios of 1:8-10
  • Block and self-scheduling available through API electronic scheduling
  • Professional scrubs in any color are allowed with no visible tattoos or piercings besides ears
  • Unit-specific orientation is provided with 2-3 shifts
  • No COVID-19 vaccination required for this assignment
  • Local rates apply for candidates residing within 50 miles; no radius rule restricts candidates
  • First-time travelers may be considered if they have prior trauma or EPIC experience

  • Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
  • BLS (AHA) certification is required and must be active
  • Minimum one year of recent Med/Surg nursing experience required
  • Experience with central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes required
  • EPIC experience preferred, required if no travel experience
  • Experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center preferred if no travel experience
  • Ability to pass a drug screen in accordance with a drug-free workplace
  • Must provide documentation of active credentials and certifications upon consideration
